Canterbury and District Netball League (CDNL)
Formed in 1977 by Don and Margaret Ansted the Canterbury and District Netball league was established in Canterbury serving players in and around the city.
For many years Don chaired the league whilst Margaret was an active player and official; Don also joined her on the side lines as a qualified umpire and took an active role in umpire training and testing.
In their later years, both Don and Margaret drew back from their more active roles, but kept their involvement in the league accepting the position of league president. It is their commitment to inclusion, whatever ability or age that gives this league its strong foundation.
We lost Don on 18 August 2006, and in his memory we contest annually for the Don Ansted Cup.
Margaret remained our President for many years but sadly died on 4 April 2020. We will celebrate her life and inspirational contribution to the league and netball locally when it is safe to do so.
The league matches take place on Sunday mornings from early October to May each year at Birley's Playing Fields for women and girls aged 14 and above.
